The Challenge of Breakfast

For the majority of my life, I have not been a breakfast eating individual.

In my early school years, the years of the loooooong bus rides, I would oft grab a hunk (I can’t really call it a piece) of the ever-present cake of my childhood – amazing chocolate pound cake – wrap it in a paper towel and run out the door. Somewhere along my hour-long trek to school via the bus, I would consume my cake.

In college and through most years of my working career, I forsook breakfast completely. Sure, I’d be hungry by 10:30 or 11 but I was tough and would hold out for lunch….a big lunch, maybe with extra fries or a dessert.

When I began working from home, it was easy to schlep myself down the hall, dump some cereal (always Honey Nut Shredded Wheat – that’s healthy right? At least it sounds healthy) in a bowl, pour on milk an absent-mindedly stuff my mouth while continuing to work. Of course, the cereal made me feel better, for about an hour or so, and then I was on the prowl for lunch.

I can only scramble, fry, boil or think about an egg so many times!

chocolate banana smoothieI thought I had discovered a solution – SMOOTHIES!

  • A little tofu – 0 sugar
  • Almond Milk – 0 sugar
  • peanut butter 1.5g sugar 1TBS
  • protein powder 2g sugar 1scoop
  • a banana – 14g sugar WHAT?!?!?!

So, I’m back to the what for breakfast question.

I don’t like most fruits (ie berries), which makes smoothie choices VERY limited.

The struggle is real!
